2020 Run For Shalva!!!

Goal: 3001

Hello and welcome to my Jerusalem marathon sponsor page!

My name is Maya Tick and I am excited to let you know that this year I am running in the marathon with team Shalva! Shalva is an amazing organization in Jerusalem that works with people with special needs of all ages. Shalva is a free and inclusive environment that is warm and accepting of everyone, no matter their race or religion. Over the past several years, I have become very passionate about working with people with special needs. My interest began back in 2017 when I started working with special needs campers who were part of the Tikvah program at Camp Ramah in Canada. Tikvah is an incredible summer camp program that allows people with special needs aged 16-24 to enjoy a full summer camp experience. For me, the moment I started working with the program I knew that I was where I was supposed to be. I instantly fell in love with them. Moving forward, in 2018 I became a counsellor in training for the Tikvah unit. I can honestly say that this summer was the best time of my life. I was beyond happy and content with what I was doing - it made me grateful to wake up every morning. Next year as first-year staff I really hope to become a Tikvah counsellor. In my home life, I also participate in activities with people with special needs. I am part of The Friendship Circle in Thornhill, Ontario and in the winter I will be apart of the Track3 Program in Collingwood, Ontario. Both of these programs are strictly dedicated to individuals with special needs.

Now, getting to the point of this page. I am beyond grateful that I have received the chance to go to Israel and be a part of Shalva. Meeting people with special needs in Israel will be such a new and enriching experience for me. I think that this experience will open my eyes even wider for what else we can do for people with special needs. Not only am I happy to run with Israel, but the real reason that I am attending this trip is to run with Shalva.

I hope that you are able to find a place in your heart for these people as well. If you have the chance, I would be so grateful if you could donate to my page for team Shalva. ALL of the money that is raised on this page goes directly to Shalva. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
Thank you for taking your time to read my page. I hope that everyone is able to donate (even a little) and if not, please try to educate yourself on special needs people and specifically Shalva.

Thank you again!
All my love,
Maya
