This March I will be running as part of Team Shalva in the Jerusalem Half Marathon!
This marathon has been dubbed one of the hardest in the world, so why on earth am I doing it?
The reason is Shalva.
Shalva has been providing transformative care to individuals with disabilities and their family members in the warmest and most loving environment for over 36 years. From infancy through adulthood, this amazing organization provides leading-edge therapies, inclusive educational frameworks, social and recreational activities, employment training, independent living, and respite programs regardless of religion, ethnic background or financial capability!
Simply put, Shalva is an incredible place and is open 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. The staff is so loving and kind and goes above and beyond to make the center a home away from home. They create a loving and nurturing environment which allows all of these people to truly feel connected to those around them as well as giving us a chance to show them just how extraordinary they are as human beings.
As well as running for this phenomenal organisation and supporting the incredible work they do, I am also running in memory and honour of my beloved grandparents, Malcolm and Denise Werner, and Mike and Michele Hoffman. My grandparents were, and still are, the most extraordinary people I know. They made me laugh and feel loved and radiated kindness and love for others. I miss them deeply and I know they are looking down, proud, of what I am doing in our Jewish homeland and for such a special cause. When I run it will not just be for shalva, but also for them.
I am doing my part to support this amazing organization and the Shalva National Crisis Response Center by running the half marathon, and I need your help.
I'll take care of the training, the achy feet and the finish line if you'll help me by donating to this worthy cause.
