Goal: 1000
This year in seminary every Wednesday is my chessed day. I have always heard about Shalva but didn’t really know exactly what they did nor realize how much of an impact it really has on people’s lives. Shalva is an organization that provides a multitude of critical services for children and adults with special needs. I decided that I wanted to experience Shalva first hand myself. Every Wednesday, I volunteer at Shalva with 2-3 year olds, in their classroom, and I already have formed a relationship with so many of them. Not only do they really need this organization , but so do their parents. It gives their parents a break and it’s free of charge for every single kid that attends. Now, each week these kids ask me in Hebrew “are you coming back tomorrow?”. I am so thankful that I decided to take on this amazing opportunity of volunteering for Shalva and I can’t wait to continue my year with them and strengthen our relationship. Now that I actually have a personal connection with shalva, I decided to run with shalva in the Jerusalem marathon in March 2019 to raise funds for this amazing organization. I am hoping to raise a minimum of $1000. I am specifically running the 10k in memory of Sara Batya, the daughter of the caterer in Midreshet Moriah, who’s life was taken away way too early. She was one of the very first members of shalva and the organization had a significant impact on her short life , as well as that of her family. A few years ago, Shalva moved into their stunning new national center in Jerusalem. It boggles my mind to think that not one dollar is ever asked of the families serviced there; every single aspect of Shalva's facilities and care is state of the art, including their fitness center with semi-Olympic and hydrotherapy pools, countless classrooms and therapy spaces used by programs from newborns and mothers through the after-school program for elementary and high school students. Shalva is also home to completely accessible parks, a 400-seat auditorium with unprecedented wheelchair access, a café with employees who are Shalva alumnae and much, much more. Add into the equation Shalva's staff who are so incredibly professional, loving and kind, as well as all the plans for the future in their new center, and you've got one of the most important leaders in care for people with disabilities in the world. I am so happy to be doing my part to support this inspiring organization by running, and I need your help to reach my fundraising goals. Your generous support will be much appreciated and you can sponsor me with a 100% tax deductible donation on the easy-to-use Team Shalva website. My personal page is http://www.run4shalva.org/my/ellana. If your company has a matching gift program, please let me know so I can connect you with Shalva. And please feel free to share this email with anyone who you think might be interested in donating to Shalva. I hope that together we can help support this truly special place. On behalf of the children and families of Shalva, thank you in advance for your help and generosity. Sincerely, Eliana Feigenblum
